Pepper’s Mexicana & Tequila Bar

Building a new building during a time of shortages means you have to plan ahead and leverage local relationships to deliver on time and under budget.

The Herron Group completed a ground up build of the Pepper’s Cocina Mexicana & Tequila Bar in St. Johns, FL in January 2023. While this project faced challenges during construction such as material shortages and equipment delays, the outcome is exactly what the client was looking for. A casual restaurant that feels upscale, open and beautiful.

This project includes several unique design aspects that stand out from other locations. The eye-catching ceiling fixtures are each handmade and were shipped in from Mexico to provide an authentic yet classy feel. The booths also add an extra layer of complexity with their unique design. 

The idea behind the design of the restaurant was to create a space that feels large and open, yet allows customers to have their own dining experience at each table. The high ceilings and bar shelving that reaches the ceiling opens up the space to feel bright and airy. The layout also features an open view of the kitchen for guests to feel immersed in the dining experience. The kitchen is large and functional to provide adequate space for employees. There is also a large walk-in freezer so that there is no chance of overcrowding or running out of space.

An important feature to highlight is the outdoor patio, complete with a full bar. The layout is visually interesting while remaining comfortable for guests to enjoy their food and drinks outdoors.

While some projects have a few bumps in the road, The Herron Group knows how to stay on time, on budget, and produce a space that clients love.
