Ground Up Commercial Build
Hampton Inn New Smyrna
Client Website
Sometimes getting projects through permitting are less about checklists and more about getting creative. This build needed a special eye to complete.
The Herron Group’s founder, Mark Herron, led the $20 million, award-winning construction project on the New Smyrna Beach Hampton Inn Hotel. Mark has been in construction for more than 30 years, and has been the head of multiple expansive projects, much like this one. With amenities such as a fitness center, laundry, pool, outdoor patio, and meeting spaces, this project has it all.
Before the construction of this 112 room hotel, New Smyrna Beach had not seen new major construction in about 20 years, and this project was a challenge for members of the area to accept. The most important factor when planning this project was ensuring the exterior design fit in with the quaint beach town. Though this could have been a cause for concern of delay, Mark was proactive in outreach to aid in design to ensure the hotel fit right in. Because of this, the project remained on time, coming to completion after 18 months, and on budget through careful planning.
“I support and recommend Mr. Mark Herron. His dedicated and focused work on this difficult project was not only handled in a professional manor, it was performed in an exemplarity fashion. Mark’s contribution to the overall success of the project has been held in very high regard by the ownership of the hotel and most certainly by our development organization. Specifically, Mark had full control, knowledge and administration of the construction process of this $20M project. He delivered. He followed up. And he handled the difficult parts of the job with professionalism and care. If we ever have an opportunity to work again with Mark, we would certainly look forward to the job.”
– David Swentor, Premiere Development Group
Not only did the project check all the boxes for construction, it has also pleased guests continuously. The New Smyrna Beach Hampton Inn won the Circle of Excellence Award from Hilton Hotels, parent company for the Hampton Inn chain. This award is given to the top 10 percent of Hampton properties based on guest services, scores, audits and revenues. It is a feeling of success when a project gains recognition for quality and functionality.
Client Note:
“I would recommend Mark Herron, without hesitation, for any position for which he is being considered. I worked closely with Mark over the course of about a year and a half on a hotel project in New Smyrna Beach, FL where he was the project manager for the general contractor, and I was the project architect.
The project was fairly complex and required a great deal of collaboration between us to provide the owner with a successful project. During the entire process the project ran smoothly thanks in large part to Mark’s successful management. Even when the inevitable issues came up we were always able to work them out to keep the project on track without any conflict. Architects and contractors don’t always get along, but my experience working with Mark is among the very best in my 25 years in the industry. Mark was an utmost professional in dealing with me directly and in my observation of how he worked with the clients and subcontractors as well.”
